Teaching assistant Baudouin Kalala earns a distinction for his Advanced Studies dissertation

The Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts of Mbujimayi celebrates another academic success. Teaching assistant Baudouin Kalala Kalumbua has obtained his Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) with distinction. Enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Official University of Mbujimayi, in the Faculty of Social, Political and Administrative Sciences, he defended his dissertation on Friday 18 September on “Public procurement governance and sustainable development in Kasai-Oriental: issues, challenges and prospects”.

The study analyses how public contracts are awarded, carried out and monitored, and identifies the issues and challenges facing this sector in the province. It starts from one central question: how does the governance of public procurement contribute to sustainable development in Kasai-Oriental? For the new graduate, effective governance based on transparency, equal treatment of bidders, expertise, accountability and the fight against corruption, favouritism and patronage can strengthen the impact of public contracts on development.

The findings show that public procurement has helped improve infrastructure in education, health, public administration, energy and roads. The Local Development Programme for 145 Territories (PDL-145T) is cited as having created jobs and boosted the local economy.

The study also recommends capacity-building, digitising procedures, fighting corruption, promoting sustainable public procurement, citizen oversight and strengthening decentralisation.

The Communication Unit warmly congratulates the new Advanced Studies Diploma graduate from the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts of Mbujimayi.
