Postgraduate studies: Roger Kabeya obtains his Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) with highest distinction

Teaching assistant Roger Kabeya Mulumba defended his DEA dissertation on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and passed with highest distinction. Before a jury of distinguished university professors, he presented a study entitled: “Local governance theory put to the test of facts in the city of Mbujimayi: a study of the issues, challenges, stakeholder strategies and coordination mechanisms for the city's future”.

This work, which crowns an ambitious academic path, shows that although the principles of local governance theory exist, putting them into practice in Mbujimayi is still at an exploratory stage. It is held back in particular by a lack of genuine political will among local leaders and by the absence of real mechanisms for citizen participation to guarantee transparency and accountability.

At the end of his analysis, the researcher proposed six ways to improve local governance for the future of Mbujimayi: respecting each body's areas of responsibility, adapting to changing realities, training local authorities, making citizen participation effective, fighting corrupt practices, and encouraging responsible leadership.

Through these proposals, Roger Kabeya Mulumba aims to contribute to the debate on the future of local governance in Mbujimayi, with an emphasis on the responsibility of stakeholders, citizen participation and effective institutions.

Congratulations to the new Advanced Studies Diploma graduate from the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts of Mbujimayi.
