Dissertation defences: a design inspired by roots to celebrate African cultural identity

For her final-year project, Kasonga Lola Bénédicte presented an original creation entitled: “Designing a plant-inspired men's outfit to promote African cultural identity: the case of a two-piece suit”.

To create this piece, the student drew inspiration from the roots of a plant, a symbol of origin, identity and belonging.

Through this design, she sends a powerful message to society: never forget your roots. Everyone knows their history and where they come from. Preserving and celebrating that heritage honours one's identity; ignoring it means denying part of oneself and showing ingratitude towards one's origins.

With this work, the student invites everyone to remain proud of their cultural heritage while helping to promote it.

The final-year project was presented and defended for the Bachelor's degree in Arts and Crafts, majoring in Fashion Design.

The Communication Unit warmly congratulates Kasonga Lola Bénédicte on this meaningful work, which carries a strong message in support of African cultural identity.
