Dissertation defences: ISAM Mbujimayi, a showcase for creativity and entrepreneurship in Kasai-Oriental

The Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts (ISAM) of Mbujimayi launched its annual dissertation defence session on Friday 24 July 2026. This eagerly awaited event turns the Institute's conference room, for the duration of the session, into a genuine incubator of ideas and talent.

From the very first hours, there was a buzz on campus. The room, packed with guests, came alive with the presentations of the Fashion Design students. With controlled flair and academic rigour, these young designers took turns, one dissertation after another, to defend collections that combine technical innovation with cultural identity.

Beyond academic assessment, these defences reflect a wider vision: making fashion a driver of provincial development. By promoting local know-how and encouraging the creation of textile art, ISAM is helping to strengthen cultural life and structure the creative sector.

Recognised for the excellence of its technical and artistic training, the Institute thus reaffirms its threefold mission: to train, to create and to build businesses. Each project presented is the result of a demanding journey that combines mastery of a trade, an aesthetic sense and initiative — key assets for employment and self-employment in the region.

This first day set a promising tone. The defences continued on Saturday and will end on Monday 27 July, with other programmes taking part. Once again, ISAM confirms its role as a breeding ground for talent and a catalyst for development through the arts and crafts.
